Day 2

If yesterday was all about Murphy’s law, today was Yhprum’s law. It was spectacular! Baranoff’s fishing charter picked us up at our Inn at 6:30 to begin a day of halibut fishing. It is a well-run operation and our guides (Jim and Ben) were great. It was only the two of us with the two guides on our boat. We went down the channel for about an hour on very choppy water and the first stop we made wasn’t fruitful for halibut. We caught several rockfish that weren’t retainable.

They are quite ugly with dangerous spines.

The guide asked if we were ok going out further since the water was so choppy and we said go for it.
Kim caught the first halibut and it was about 34” long but it wasn’t long before I caught a bigger one.
48” long and 40.3 lbs. I have to rub it in a little bit.
The limit for halibut is one each so we moved to another area to do some salmon fishing. Kim caught two pinks and I caught one.

He also brought in a stingray
And a black rockfish that we could keep. So all in all a great day of fishing.
This is the boat we went out on.

After fishing we ate a late lunch at the fish house. It was about 4 o’clock by then. I had blackened halibut salad and Kim had the sampler platter with cod, halibut and salmon. I was almost finished eating when he asked me if it wasn’t photo worthy. I said it absolutely was. I was just so hungry I didn’t even think of taking a picture. 🥴

Tomorrow we get on the Alaska Marine Hwy Ferry and head up to Skagway. More then…

    1. It was the first meal that was photo worthy and I can’t believe I didn’t take a pic either. Reminds me of the time you and I were in Ireland and ate the banofee pie and took a pic of the empty plate 🤣
