Day 7

Woke up to more rain! Hoping for sunny days ahead.

Our lodging the last two nights.
Our lodging for the next two nights 🤣. I’m standing outside the doorway taking this pic. That’s how small it is. You’ll notice my bed is folded up against the wall and Kim’s is the fold down table. There is nothing but walls on each end of the beds. We actually can’t both stand in the room and open the door. Gonna be fun!

We had multiple drills on the ferry today. This is a pic of the rescue boat going out for the “man overboard” drill. Shortly after the drills we stopped moving. Apparently there was some oil leakage (possibly caused by some of the maneuvers) so now we are staying within cell phone coverage while it’s being checked out.
They just came on and said we’re headed back to Juneau. So after 4 1/2 hours “on the boat”, we’re turning around.

In case this looks vaguely familiar it is. 7 hours later we are back in Juneau. The dilemma now is do we get off the ferry and fly to anchorage, bypassing Whittier, but ensuring we don’t miss our anniversary Denali flight or stay on hoping they get it fixed and us on our way. So, after many conflicting updates, we heard the captain telling some other people that best case scenario is leaving tomorrow evening. We decided to go into the terminal and explore our options. Long story short, we spent the night on the ferry in our lovely accommodations, got up and took a taxi to the airport at 5 am and now we’re waiting on a flight to anchorage.

Saying goodbye to the Alaska Marine Highway system. Hopefully we can get early checkin at our Anchorage hotel (like a whole day early). 🤣
