Day 8

 We landed in Anchorage with the sun shining! Yay!

 Tonna’s friend Camille picked us up at the airport and then we went to breakfast with her and husband Lee. 

I’m not even going to apologize for the number of pics today because it was just so incredibly beautiful. 
We went for a walk on the boardwalk that Lee built while working for Alaska Fish and Game.

Then we went up to Tabletop mountain. Amazing views of Anchorage and the mountains surrounding it. 




They sent us off to explore in Camille’s car with great tips on where to go and what to see. On the drive to Portage Glacier

Took a short hike up to Byron Glacier (about 1 1/2 miles one way). 





Walked on the glacier. These crevasses were so deep you couldn’t see the bottom. 


The cottonwoods were blowing in the air like snow. 
We returned to Camille and Lee’s where we were treated to a delicious dinner of grilled copper creek salmon. But first we had an appetizer of moose sausage from one of Lee’s hunts. They invited us to stay the night and have really spoiled us. What a treat it has been to get to know them and what a blessing they are!

    WOW so breathe beautiful!!! You were royally treated very good. I am jealous 😊. And so very happy you. That was so very sweet of Camille and Lee. The food sounded remarkable yummy.

    So happy you got to finally see and experience Alaska and the breathtaking beauty. And happy magnificent 50th anniversary tomorrow. What an amazing couple you are and what great friends you are to us. Love you both.

    In the 2nd & 3rd crevasse pics there’s something red laying near the opening of the crevasse. What is that? Hopefully not the remnant of an unfortunate explorer.

    Happy Anniversary!!! 50 YEARS?!?
    That just doesn’t seem possible. Enjoy your day wherever you are. I’m sure it’s beautiful.
    We were looking back at all the pictures last night and Janae was commenting on how incredible the photos have been.
    By the way, they all love my California Memory book and my card

      Thanks! It really doesn’t seem possible that it’s been 50 yrs. It’s supposed to be another beautiful day and so far it is. And the pics don’t even begin to show how incredible it is.

 Wow. It’s hard to believe it’s day 6 already. Where has the time gone? We woke up to a rainy day and it hasn’t stopped all day. We checked into a couple of tours but it’s Monday and most of them are only operating on weekends SINCE THE CRUISE SHIPS AREN’T COMING IN YET!!! Oh well it would have been miserable in the rain anyway. So we hopped on the city bus and went downtown to explore.  So tired of masking up.  There were some pretty fancy yachts docked there.  This one was quite impressive. We decided it belonged to some sheik from across the pond. It had a middle eastern flag. And here we are as drowned rats 😁.  Salmon on brining racks. They hand filet the salmon and can filet up to 1,000 lbs per hour. I finally got a bit of a picture of the dog that kept popping up in the window. It was her face in the window that was so funny though. Her name is Taiya named after the Taiya River.  So, interesting day today. We had booked a city and mountain summit tour for today in lieu of the Yukon Train which isn’t running. Got up early and went to the meeting location but it was locked up tight. I called the number on the booking and the man was in Alabama. Apparently Viator (a trip advisor company) keeps booking his tours even though he’s told them numerous times he is closed until/unless the cruise ships start coming back and to stop booking them. He felt really bad about it but here we are in town at 7 am with nothing to do. Most of the shops are closed due to the pandemic and the ones that do open, don’t open until 10 or 12 or not at all because it’s Sunday. We walked around forever! We did find the Klondike Gold Rush museum open at 10 and they own several buildings in town so we learned...

We left our house at 3:04 am today and met Aaron at the fire station. He dropped us off at the airport. I wish I had taken a picture of the people in the line. It was all the way to the end of the airport and then doubled all the way back going out the door. I’ve never seen it so crowded. Especially at 4:30 in the morning.  We had been in the airport and on planes for several hours and had several more to go so we took the opportunity to go outside for a minute and take our face masks off. Hate those things.  Flying into Ketchikan. I had an aisle seat so this isn’t a very good pic.  Leaving the airport to catch the ferry across the channel.  Ferry pics Standing on our hotel patio, watching a float plane take off.  Took a walk along the boardwalk after dinner.
