Final Day

Having morning tea and coffee in the coffee shop at our inn

Nice view.

I always think I won’t take many pics but we had another beautiful drive back to Anchorage so…
Saying goodbye to Denali.
Stopped at the Denali State Park veterans memorial

We turned off at Willow to drive through Hatcher’s Pass. It was an amazing drive! There was about 20 miles of dirt road following this creek for part of the drive.
Kim was impressed with this rig.

The valley was so green and beautiful. Reminded me of Ireland in many ways.

The car we’ve been renting the last 4 days. You can see it’s a bit small for Kim. We picked up Matthew (the car’s owner) at his house and since we still had plenty of time before our flight, he drove us around for awhile before dropping us at the airport. He actually filled in for his pastor preaching at his church this morning. He promised us we would see a moose because they’re everywhere. We didn’t. Didn’t see a bear. Didn’t see a moose. 🤷‍♀️ But he did try and he was really nice.

Lake at the top of the pass.

Matthew suggested we eat at the Moose’s Tooth when we picked up the car from him last Thursday. It was crazy crowded so we decided to find something else to eat, but we had plenty of time today so we ate there for lunch. It was an hour wait and another 30-45 minutes for the pizza but worth it.
This is my gluten free, dairy free pizza and yes, I ate the whole thing. It was so good and the first real pizza I’ve had in a year.
Kim had the Bull Moose supreme

We are now sitting at the airport waiting on our flight home. I had forgotten how much I hate this mask. There were only a couple of places we had to wear them on the trip (mostly the airports, planes and ferries). Of course those are the ones you’re wearing them the longest too. Ugh! It was nice breathing the fresh mountain air while it lasted.

It has been an amazing adventure, making many memories. We’ve shipped almost 30 lbs of fish home, walked over 75 miles, just under 160,000 steps and climbed the equivalent of 162 floors, drove around 750 miles, traveled on three ferries, flown on three different airlines, and slept in everything from a berth to a resort.

Thank you all for posting comments along the way. It’s always such a delight to hear from you while we are away. So in til our next journey…farewell.
